The International Emerging Workshop is now officially launched—an initiative of UIA2026BCN designed to engage students and young professionals in a creative laboratory guided by twelve outstanding emerging architecture studios.
The call invites both local and international participants to a week of design work prior to the main event, taking place from 19 to 27 June. The program includes lectures, meetings with the Workshop Leaders, and urban tours.
Organized into twelve groups of up to fifteen people each, participants will collaborate at Les Tres Xemeneies in Sant Adrià de Besòs—an emblematic site within the Barcelona metropolitan area—fostering intercultural and interdisciplinary exchange.
These are the Workshop Leaders, the twelve emerging studios that will lead the research, based on their practice and on the six pillars of Becoming:
Becoming More-Than-Human
– Simulaa (Australia) with “Additions and Adaptations”
– Design Earth (Lebanon/Algeria) with “Brava!”
Becoming Circular
– Mio Tsuneyama and Fuminori Nousaku (Japan) with “Making Knots, Weaving Shed”
– Nicolas Dorval-Bory Architectes (France) with “The coolest summer of the rest of our lives”
Becoming Embodied
– Nuno Melo Sousa (Portugal) with “One, two, three, more, many tables”
– TEN Studio (Serbia/Switzerland) with “Try again. Fail again. Fail better”
Becoming Interdependent
– Assemble (UK) with “Merchants & Warriors”
– Plan Común (Chile/France) with “In between Commons BCN”
Becoming Hyper-Conscious
– Common Accounts (Spain/Canada) with “Parade!”
– Ibiye Camp (UK) with “Revised Cartographies”
Becoming Attuned
– Bear (Spain) with “Elements of dissidence”
– Bangkok Tokyo Architecture (Thailand/Japan) with “Collective Completions”
The workshop is aimed at students and recent graduates in architecture and related disciplines, holding a degree obtained from 2020 onwards.
Applications must be submitted through the official Congress website (link here: uia2026bcn.org/international-emerging-workshop/), including an academic CV, a portfolio of three projects, and a ranked list of preferred studios. No application fee is required.
Selected participants will pay a fee covering workshop participation, shared materials, and full access to the UIA 2026 World Congress of Architects. Scholarships are planned, with details to be announced soon.
