Bruther
Stéphanie Bru and Alexandre Theriot founded Bruther in Paris in 2007 and in Zurich in 2022. They belong to the generation of architects who began their careers at the start of the recession, a circumstance that shaped their understanding of architecture as a Swiss Army knife—a tool to be used in diverse circumstances, reconciling multiple fields of knowledge.
Their courage in design is evident in urban projects, particularly those on the margins, often for public institutions with limited budgets. Bruther stands out for its innovative approach integrating research, teaching, and architecture, seeking to meet today’s needs while anticipating future uses. Notable projects include the Saint-Blaise Cultural Center in Paris, the National Center for Visual Arts in Pantin, the Media House in Brussels, and the extension of the Torcuato di Tella University in Buenos Aires.
Bruther’s work has been the subject of international conferences and publications. In 2019, a monograph on their career was published by El Croquis. The studio has received several awards, including the Équerre d’Argent, the 2018 Dejean Prize from the Académie d’Architecture, the 2020 Swiss Architectural Award, and most recently the Brussels Architecture Prize. Stéphanie Bru became a full member of the Académie d’Architecture in 2021.
Alexandre Theriot is currently an associate professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich. Stéphanie Bru is full professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany and visiting professor at the USI Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio.
