Founded in Shanghai in 2012, Yanfei Architects is a collaborative studio led by Principal Architect Yanfei Shui. The studio operates as a multidisciplinary team, developing context-specific spatial strategies through regional research, experimental installations, community engagement, and on-site construction. Yanfei Architects’ work responds to China’s rapid urban and social transformation, seeking new architectural forms that open up fresh possibilities for everyday life.
The studio has received numerous awards and recognition. Yanfei Architects was awarded the AIA Shanghai Honor Award in 2018 and was invited that same year to participate in the Venice Architecture Biennale. In 2023, the studio received the Architecture China Award (Exploration Award for Young Architects). In 2024, Yanfei Architects presented its solo exhibition Focusing the Familiar in Shanghai. In 2025, Yanfei Shui was honored with Japan’s Kazuhiro Kojima Prize for emerging independent architects.
