Zirkular
Zirkular is a specialist planning office and pioneer for circular construction. The studio seizes opportunities for better construction and demonstrates how it can be implemented in practice. Originating from baubüro in situ in 2020, the organization now employs around 20 people and builds on 25 years of commitment to sustainable construction.
As a specialist planning organization, the studio is guided by the multifaceted nature of circular building principles. Its work focuses on building within the existing fabric, working with what is already there, and expanding through new construction with future reuse and continued use of buildings and their components in mind. Zirkular partners with and advises on projects and competitions, while promoting research and education and expanding its network in sustainable building.
The studio supports clients throughout the planning, bidding, and implementation of circular and climate-friendly buildings, in renovation as well as in new construction. Together with project partners, strategies and framework conditions—financial, legal, normative, and ecological—are defined, and suitable components are identified to ensure a second life.
Properties are analyzed for their reuse potential at all levels, from the building and its structure to individual components and materials. In renovation or deconstruction projects, elements suitable for reuse within the project or elsewhere are identified, and steps from disassembly to reassembly are organized.
Zirkular supports circular and climate-friendly competitions by providing component catalogs, target specifications, and jury participation, and partners with architectural offices to integrate circular economy principles into competition entries. The studio participates in research projects, is active in teaching, offers internships, and trains component hunters. Through collaboration with authorities and associations, it contributes to shaping the future of the circular construction sector.
