Curro Claret
Curro Claret studied at the Elisava School of Design and Engineering and Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Since the late 1990s, he has worked as a freelance designer of furniture, objects, artifacts, and interiors, focusing on critically rethinking ways of living, making, and (re)using existing resources.
His practice shows a particular interest in engaging groups who, for various reasons, are marginalized, invisible, and have limited opportunities to participate, exploring ways to empower them. His work with these diverse groups is carried out interchangeably with sector-specific organizations, such as Arrels Fundació, Tot Raval, Impulsem, and We Are Water Foundation; cultural institutions, such as Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo and La Cuisine Centre d’Art et de Design in Nègrepelisse; companies, such as BD Barcelona, Camper, and Ziclacities; and academic centers, most regularly the Elisava School of Design and Engineering, often intertwining several of these organizations within the same project.
He has curated exhibitions including “Krea” Different Perspectives on Creative Processes, with designer Martín Azúa for BCD at the Barcelona Design Museum in 2017, and “En la obra” with the architecture studio BURR at Espacio Gaviota in Madrid in 2026.
He has received several awards, including the Designer of the Year Award 2023 at Madrid Design Fest, the Designer of the Year Award from AD Spain magazine 2015, and the 2nd Prize for Best Recycled Product 2011 from the European Association of Plastics Recycling and Recovery Organizations.
