Javier Fernández Contreras is an architect and architectural theorist, and Head of the Department of Space Design/Interior Architecture at HEAD – Genève, Switzerland. His work explores the relationship between architecture, representation, and media, with a specific focus on the role of interiors in the construction of contemporaneity.

Through research, writing, and teaching, his practice investigates how interiors operate as critical frameworks through which cultural, social, and technological conditions are articulated and experienced. His work positions interior architecture as a key site for understanding contemporary spatial production and discourse.

Fernández Contreras is the author of The Miralles Projection (2020), Manifesto of Interiors (2021), and The Interiors of Social Media (2026). He is also the co-editor of Scènes de Nuit (2021), Intimacy Exposed (2023), A Nocturnal History of Architecture (2024), and Nothing About Interior Architecture (2025).
