FORM FOLLOWS TRANSFORMATION – Moments that Redefine Europe’s Existing Buildings

Auditorium, 4th Floor.

Europe’s built environment is at a crossroads: the interconnected crises of housing and climate change demand a paradigm shift. With between 85% and 95% of today’s buildings expected to remain standing in 2050, the urgency of renovating, adapting, and reusing the existing building stock has never been clearer.

This seminar aims to explore how architecture can lead this transformation, not as a mere technical upgrade, but as a holistic, human-centred, and creative act. Through a selection of projects from the Form Follows Transformation exhibition, presented by ACE during the Congress, participants will discover how smart renovation and the transformation of the built heritage can foster sustainability, resilience, and social cohesion.

Guided by the Davos Baukultur criteria and framed within the New European Bauhaus initiative, we will discuss how public policy, culture, and design can converge to scale solutions that are sustainable, inclusive, and aesthetically compelling.

An event co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme.
