BURR is an architecture practice led by Elena Fuertes, Ramón Martínez, Álvaro Molins, and Jorge Sobejano. The name refers to imperfections or remnants produced during material transformation, reflecting the studio’s interest in conditions often excluded from aesthetic or functional norms. Its work is process-driven, using design and construction as tools to expand the possibilities of space, material, and patterns of use.
BURR has received several distinctions, including the XVI Spanish Urbanism and Architecture Biennale Award (BEAU XVI), the 2025 Next 30 Design Awards, and FAD (finalist) and COAM (honourable mention). The studio has lectured at institutions such as Columbia GSAPP, Rhode Island School of Design, Université Laval, HEAD Genève, RIXC, and Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo.
Its work has been featured in Domus, Detail, Frame, AV, Dwell, and The Architect’s Newspaper. BURR also runs Espacio Gaviota, an exhibition space in Madrid supporting independent cultural initiatives.
