Jo Taillieu
Jo Taillieu is a professor at EPFL (CH) and director of his eponymous office, JTA. After working with international architecture firms, he founded his own practice in 2004, which evolved into advvt in 2009 for a decade. In 2018, advvt was awarded the Silver Lion for Promising Young Participant at the 16th Venice Biennale and was one of the five finalists for the 2019 Mies van der Rohe Award.
Alongside joint projects at architecten de vylder vinck taillieu, in 2019 Taillieu refocused on his initial office, now operating as JTA. Since 2025, Lina Christiaens and Jan Van Gassen have been partners within the studio. JTA has been widely recognized, published internationally, and continues to develop projects that blend rigorous design thinking with practical execution.
A core strength of the office lies in its knowledge of architectural practice from conception to realisation. The studio prioritizes the genuine effort to execute a design fully, consistently pursuing the “logic of construction,” where the unexpected becomes the expected outcome.
JTA’s work combines intellectual and technical rigor with a commitment to materiality, detail, and collaboration, producing architecture that is thoughtful, inventive, and grounded in the practical realities of building.
