The Metropolitan Institute of Land Development and Property Management (IMPSOL) of the AMB drives a public housing model that combines architectural quality, comprehensive sustainability, and social innovation. Housing is conceived as a permanent social infrastructure, designed to last and to sustain long-term environmental, social, and economic values.
Its transformation began after the 2007–2017 crisis, which opened the door to a paradigm shift: flexible, inclusive, non-hierarchical homes with intermediate spaces that foster community life and reduce energy demand. Buildings such as the 85 dwellings in Cornellà marked a stage of typological innovation.
From 2019 onwards, IMPSOL deepened its focus on energy efficiency, bioclimatic design, and monitoring to learn from the real performance of buildings. Since 2023, it has incorporated strategies to drastically cut construction-phase emissions and has standardised the use of healthy materials and industrialised systems.
In 2024, IMPSOL strengthened social innovation as a key driver for building more cohesive communities through shared spaces. Today, rehabilitation has become a major line of work, helping to revitalise the urban fabric and expand the impact of the public housing stock.
Through this trajectory, IMPSOL has consolidated itself as an urban innovation platform that ensures affordable, sustainable housing tailored to the needs of present and future generations.
