Lluís Alexandre Casanovas
Lluís Alexandre Casanovas Blanco is an architect and curator. His studio moves beyond elite-driven and purely financial interests to engage material cultures and imaginaries long sidelined within the discipline.
His projects have received wide international recognition, including the Simon Architecture Prize, the Bauwelt Prize, and the FAD Award, among others. He was a finalist for the Millennium bcp Début Award at the 2019 Lisbon Architecture Triennale, which recognizes emerging international architects under 35.
He served as Curator of Architecture at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and was chief co-curator of the Oslo Architecture Triennale. He has curated exhibitions at institutions including Fundación Cerezales, the Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía, and La Casa Encendida.
He is also active as a critic. He holds a PhD from Princeton University and was a fellow of the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program. He has taught at institutions including Columbia GSAPP, Barnard College, and Parsons School of Design, and has lectured at venues such as ZKM Karlsruhe, Harvard Graduate School of Design, the Centre de Cultura contemporánea de Barcelona, the Círculo de Bellas Artes, and the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid.
His writing has appeared in publications including Volume, PLOT, Movement Research Performance Journal, Millennium Film Journal, and El País. He has received several grants and fellowships, including the La Caixa Fellowship for Postgraduate Studies and a Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts grant.
