EMI Architekt*innen was founded in Zurich in 2005 by Ron Edelaar, Elli Mosayebi, and Christian Inderbitzin. The practice operates across a broad range of building projects—from design through construction—as well as urban planning, exhibitions, and publications. Housing and the restoration of historic public buildings constitute a central focus of the studio’s research, teaching, and practice. Since 2011, major projects have been realized through ongoing collaboration with Baumberger Stegmeier Architektur. Ron Edelaar, Elli Mosayebi, and Christian Inderbitzin have been members of the Federation of Swiss Architects since 2014.
Alongside practice, the partners are actively engaged in academia. Christian Inderbitzin has been Professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology since 2020 and previously taught at EPFL in 2015–2016 and, together with Elli Mosayebi and Ron Edelaar, at ETH Zurich in 2017–2018. Elli Mosayebi has been Professor of Architecture and Design at ETH Zurich since 2018 and previously served as Professor of Design and Housing at TU Darmstadt from 2012 to 2018. Ron Edelaar has been Lecturer in Constructive Design at ZHAW Winterthur since 2020.
