Hiroyuki Ito
Hiroyuki Ito Architects was established in 1999 and has since developed a practice recognized for residential, multi-unit, and public projects across Japan. The studio’s work is characterized by careful attention to context, materiality, and the everyday experiences of its users, combining rigorous design research with sensitive architectural expression.
The practice has received numerous awards and commendations. Early recognition includes the JIA Tohoku Residential Architectural Awards Gold Prize for House in Tomiya-cho (2008). Tatsumi Apartment House has been widely celebrated, receiving the SD Review Kajima Award (2015), Residential Architecture Prizes (2017), AZ Awards for residential multi-unit architecture (2017), JIA 100 Selected Works (2017), AIA Japan Design Award (2017), RIBA Awards for International Excellence (2018), and the AIJ Annual Architectural Design Commendation (2019).
Other notable projects include DECKS (Residential Architecture Prize, 2016), Mikumi-zaka Flat (JIA Excellent Architecture Selection, 2022; AIJ Annual Architectural Design Commendation, 2024), and Prism Inn Ogu (Good Design Award BEST100, 2022). Most recently, Tenjincho Place has been recognized with the Good Design Gold Award (2024), the JIA Award for Excellence in Architecture (2024), and the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize (2025), and was shortlisted for the RIBA Asia Pacific Awards (2025).
