Until not long ago, local construction used the brick as its reference construction unit—just as the metre is internationally considered a unit of measurement or gold a unit of value. From the simplicity of its geometry and its millenary production process to the ease with which it can be handled and applied, the ceramic piece has survived all kinds of stylistic trends and has challenged improbable physical limitations, displaying infinite formal flexibility.
Today, it goes beyond the assumption of prefabricated methods as axioms of contemporary architecture and continues to propose a direct connection with the earth through empathy and depth—values that are not quantifiable and, for this very reason, profoundly architectural.
