One of the recent developments that has raised global awareness about the dangers of climate change has been the potential shortage of such an essential resource as water, which in our latitudes has long been perceived as scarce, particularly over the past century. Reflecting on how our everyday actions may affect its cycle, and on how dependent we are on it, is not new—though it is increasingly relevant today.
This itinerary proposes visits to a range of facilities, both historical and contemporary, in order to explore how architecture has sought—and continues to seek—responses to water supply, storage, circulation, and regeneration. Looking ahead, it will be essential to rely on many more such infrastructures, and architecture must play a central role in their conception.
