This lecture inaugurates the series “Critical Perspectives on Contemporary Architecture: The Legacies of Ignasi Solà-Morales”, which will take place across several institutions in Barcelona.

In this session, Hashim Sarkis explores some of the key legacies of the work of Ignasi Solà-Morales, whose 25th anniversary of death is being commemorated in 2026. From reflections on new urban morphologies and the urgent need to rethink architectural heritage, to the role of architects in the public sphere and the ways in which the interaction between theory and history can foster critical architectural practices, this session will highlight the continuing relevance of Solà-Morales’s architectural thought today.

Architect Hashim Sarkis, Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), reflects on the work of Ignasi Solà-Morales and highlights its continuing relevance today in a lecture that inaugurates a tribute series dedicated to the Catalan architect on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his death.
