Josep Ferrando
Josep Ferrando Architecture is an architecture practice based in Barcelona, directed by architect Josep Ferrando. The studio embodies a polyhedral approach to architecture, combining the roles of practitioner, academic, and cultural manager. Ferrando serves as Dean of the School of Architecture at La Salle Barcelona (ETSALS) and was Director of the Open Centre for Architecture of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia, during which the institution received the National Culture Award and the Creu de Sant Jordi.
The studio’s work has been exhibited internationally, with monographic shows at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale, the Architekturforum Aedes gallery in Berlin, and the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro. In 2016, Ferrando contributed to Unfinished, the Spanish Pavilion at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale, awarded the Golden Lion. Projects by the studio have received international recognition, including FAD Awards, nominations for both the Mies Europe and Mies Americas Awards, the XV Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism prize, and an award at the Buenos Aires International Architecture Biennale (BIABA’15).
Alongside professional practice, Ferrando has maintained a substantial academic career since 1998, teaching design studios at numerous European and American universities and lecturing at institutions such as Harvard GSD, MIT, Cornell University, and Cooper Union. He has also presented at major international conferences, including UIA’11 in Tokyo and BIAU’19 in Asunción.
