Petra Blaise
(Netherlands)
Petra Blaisse, an interior, textile, exhibition and landscape designer with an arts background, founded Inside Outside as a multidisciplinary design studio in Amsterdam in 1991. Today, together with partner Aura Luz Melis (architecture), partner Jana Crepon (landscape architecture) and Peter Niessen, Blaisse runs a studio of approximately 12 team members combining traditional with innovative design methods with a hands-on mentality.
Inside Outside’s work addresses the given context – environment, culture and program – and the intentions of architect and client – at all scales and levels of complexity with a special love of craftsmanship and technical precision. The concepts behind the studio’s interventions are always site-specific, with strong social commitment and cultural awareness.
Soft and flexible, sometimes living architectural interventions create both lyrical and efficient conditions that provide new perceptions of place and time, giving visitors unexpected, ever-changing experiences; choreographing the movement of both viewer and object; and creating inviting effects that arouse curiosity and awe.
